Mike Penning, Minister of State for Disabled People and MP for Hemel Hempstead, has presented the keys of a new Motability car to his constituent Robert Pollock. The presentation took place at Palmers Peugeot Hemel, Pennine Way, Hemel Hempstead. Robert, 64, is hemiplegic, so the muscles on his left hand side are wasting. He also has osteoarthritis. Robert has been with Motability for 22 years and today collected a Peugeot 2008 with his wife, which he will lease for three years with the Scheme. Robert said: "Motability is a fantastic organisation and I couldn"t imagine life without it. It helps us to retain our independence. Our car enables us to complete our do day-to-day activities, as well as getting away for weekends to visit our family in the Midlands and Scotland. "My car is very comfortable and the Motability package really is trouble-free." Rt Hon Mike Penning MP said: "My role as a Minister of State for Disabled People takes me around the UK visiting those with the greatest needs. A number of the people I have met lease a vehicle with Motability, so I understand why the Scheme is valued by so many. It is therefore a pleasure to see how Motability operates in my constituency today and I am delighted to meet with Robert to see how his car provides a lifeline for him and his family." Declan O"Mahony, Director of Motability, commented: "We are very grateful that the Minister could join us for this special event today to see how Motability supports those in his constituency. Motability currently helps over 630,000 people like Robert with their mobility, and we look forward to supporting many more with their independence in the future."
